In the cheese business, Emmi positions itself as the leading company worldwide for cheese from Switzerland.
Fondue comes from the French meaning “melted/to melt”. It’s origins can be traced back to the 1600’s but really picked up popularity in the United States in 1960’s. I can remember learning about fondue and the traditions in French class when I was in middle school and the idea has always stuck with me as a fun, different alternative to dinner with friends and family!
Emmi Fondue from Switzerland is available in five different flavors and can be found online or at your local grocery store. It’s an easy way to bring the experience home, in a more intimate setting, instead of shelling out big bucks at a fondue restaurant.
What is so great about the Emmi Fondue brand is the simplicity of use, everything is already mixed together in the bag, even the wine, and the ability to make it in the caquelon (communal fondue pot) if you have one, or even on the stove top! A few years ago, I grabbed a fondue pot on clearance around this time of year and it’s only been used once, which was a disaster. If I had known that there was a product out there, which only had to be added to my pot and then stirred, we might have had fondue more often over the years!

We were able to try out the Original fondue flavor, which is your traditional Swiss fondue. My husband squeezed the contents of the bag into our fondue pot as I stirred vigorously. I’ve never seen fondue from a bag before, so I was a little taken back my the appearance but it quickly melted into a rich and creamy sauce.
Once melted, we used on long stemmed fondue forks and dipped day old, crusty bread into the pot. The fondue melt is very cream, with rich tones of Swiss cheese, dryness of white wine, and a slight sweetness from the Kirsch Brandy they also add. Our fondue pot is electric, so my husband and I were forced to stand by the counter to eat, but each with a glass in hand, we talked and enjoyed our special meal, something we haven’t done in a long time. I gave a small piece to our three year old, but, it’s not quite his taste. This would make a great date night for a couple or even on New Year’s Eve with friends and family! You can use just about any type of food you want for dipping, day old bread works wonderfully, as does cooked meat pieces, vegetables, or apples!
Emmi also offers a dessert fondue in chocolate. It’s made with bittersweet chocolate, white chocolate, and vanilla. We haven’t had the chance to try it yet, but the process is still the same as the cheese. In fact, this chocolate fondue can be made in the microwave! How easy is that? Once it’s melted, you can transfer it into a bowl and share away!
We’ll be trying ours out on Christmas Day as part of our desserts. You can serve it with well drained fruit, fresh fruit (I suggest putting the pieces of fruit in the freezer for twenty minutes first), wafers, and cookies! We have a tin of shortbread cookies we’re going to dip and my little guy is very excited!
If you’re looking for a last minute something to add to your holiday meal or for something fun to add to your New Year’s day, then look no further than Emmi Fondue from Switzerland.
