Last week, I shared stories about our dogs and why we love them. Well this week, I would like to focus on Gunner.
Lil Man and The Man’s birthdays are only 6 days apart, in January. One year, The Man’s brother got him a gift certificate to our locally owned pet shop. So one day we set out to the pet shop just to look around, with no idea in mind of what we would spend the money on. After browsing the store for a bit, we decided we would welcome a new pet into our family, a Fire Belly Toad. We got all of the supplies and a cage, then were ready to check out.

While he was in line, Lil Man and I were looking at stuff in an aisle, I turn around, and he’s rolling around on the floor with a puppy! They started chasing each other through the store, love at first site. We asked the clerk how much the puppy was and she said he wasn’t for sale, but was up for adoption. So we filled out the paperwork..
and a few days later he came home to us. He was a rescue dog, came from a family with lots of dogs and kids. One of the larger dogs bit him in his scruff, we had to medicate him for a week or two. He had ringworm too. But we showed him all the love we had and he fit right into his new home.
Now, 5 1/2 years later he still smiles, poor dog has an underbite and makes the funniest faces ever! We tell him “Fix your lip” and he ‘ll lick his chops!
Since we got him around the time of Lil Man and The Man’s birthdays, Lil Man insists that Gunner is his dog, and rightfully so I suppose. They are best buds for life!
I know that we’re not the only people out there with a great dog. I bet your dog is great in some way too! So why not share your dog’s greatness with the world?
