In my class, we do a unit on Recycling that happens between Earth Day and Mother’s day. We plant seeds in paper towel rolls, and collect tin cans to re-purpose into something! This year we made pretty flower pots out of tin cans and tissue paper, so easy!
Here is what you need:
- Tin cans of any size
- white glue
- paintbrush
- water
- tissue paper cut into small pieces
Step 1: Mix a small amount of water and glue – just to make the glue easier to paint on. “Paint” one section of the can with ?the glue mixture. Then lay the tissue paper onto the can. Repeat until the can is covered. Don’t be afraid to overlap the colors, it turns out really pretty!
Step 2: use the glue mixture to paint OVER the tissue paper. This helps the tissue paper stick together and have a more uniform texture. Make sure to paint with the grain, you don’t want to pull the tissue up.
Step 3: Let dry! Trim the edges if needed. Then fill with whatever makes you happy! Candles, pencils, flowers, etc.
I filled mine with a pretty candle and the Zinnia seedlings we planted.
These end up having a really pretty and easy stained glass effect. They were a big hit for Mother’s day!
Happy Crafting!
