Our lives are littered with milestones, achievements, special occasions and holidays. These and countless other events are “moments”. Moments to be shared, savored and remembered. Moments to be celebrated. Moments to be marked.
That’s what Celebrating Beginnings and Endings: Mark the Moment Book One is all about – why you should and how you should go about marking your moments and more importantly the moments of those you love. It’s up to you what those moments are, it’s up to you in what fashion you choose to celebrate them. Paula Pugh gives you everything you need from the encouragement to do so to the tool kit needed. She blends ideas and suggestions for your ceremonies with stories of how others have went about marking their moments. It also gives ideas for gifts for loved ones that are far better than anything you could pick up at a store.
I love the flow of this book from the beginnings when we celebrate births, graduations, and weddings to transitions with things you may never even consider celebrating like the kids leaving the home, divorce and menopause. The final chapter is, appropriately, about the final chapters of our lives. One of the things I liked most about this book is that Paula has included events that I would never have thought of as occasions to commemorate such as coming of age, menopause, loss of animal friends and miscarriage.
This is a beautiful book, with wonderful suggestions and great stories. Having a debilitating disease, it touched me, so many of the stories touched me, and it most certainly made me realize I should be doing more than just trying to observe these special or difficult events that take place. Whether they be happy or sad, they are important and I should respect and honor them. I should mark them and from now on, in my own way I will.
