When I asked my daughter, Simone (3), what kind of birthday party she wanted she said, “Jude’s party” (we had just been to a friend’s party with a train theme)?and seeing as how she is not really a big fan of trains I chose to interpret that as Butterflies!
So I hopped on Pinterest to look for some inspiration and found a fun project for Paper Towel Butterflies!? Looking at the directions, I realized it was the same as the coffee filter butterflies I have made with my Kindergarten students.? Easy!
?Here is what you need:
- paper towels (I used the create-a-size kind)
- water
- food coloring of your choice
- small bowls
- pipe cleaners
The steps are super easy.
1) Add some water to your bowls.? Drop in a few drops of food coloring and stir.
2) Fold your paper towel the long way (hot dog fold!) and then once more.? You can play around with how you fold it to create different patterns.? Remember, the more ways you fold it, the more interesting your pattern will be (like doing tie-dye).
3) Dip the corners in different colors.? Squeeze out the excess back into the bowl.
4) Unfold and let dry
5) When they are dry, gather the paper towel in the middle (pinch or twist) and wrap the pipe cleaner around (twist it so it looks like antenna standing up).
6) Enjoy!
These turned out so cute!? It would be fun to play with how you fold the paper towel to see what kind of color patterns you can make! You might like these Tissue Paper Butterflies too!
