Galilee Silks is a leading silk designer that specializes in the hand-dying of raw white silk and produces a distinctive range of unique Judaica textile products, fashion items and silk accessories.
Galilee Silks is located Kibbutz Beit Haemek in the northern part of Israel. It was founded by Shlomit Azati, its managing director, as a single employee craft business. Today, it’s Israel’s leading silk designer and hand-dying factory, employing over 20 specialists with distribution offices in the U.S.
Although this video is not in English it beautifully illustrates the craftsmanship and elegant painting/weaving of their hand-painted silks.
After watching the video you can see why I feel so honored to have been given the opportunity to review a hand-painted long jacket. To see the beauty in how it had been created, the personal touch that had been so delicately brushed to form a work of art that could never be re-created exactly as mine. It almost put me in a sense of awe, the beauty of it. You can see many more photos of the process in their Gallery and also their Color Chart will give you an idea of what colors you can choose from.
My hand-painted long silk jacket had the earth colors of Autumn, browns and tans, swirled in with a mix of manila and deep rose reds. It’s incredibly beautiful and I couldn’t take a picture to do it justice, so I had borrowed this gorgeous photo of a blue hand-painted long jacket for you to get an idea of how flowing and light the fabric is and how detailed the paint seems when it is waving in the air. It’s stunning, to wear, to feel; almost as though it is a single breath that just happened to materialize onto your shoulders.
Galilee Silks makes an incredible array of Silk Fashions: Handbags, Shirts, Jackets, Scarves, Ponchos and Accessories as well as Judaica Items: Tallits, Shofar Bags, Afikomen Bags, Chuppah, and Kippots. Each item having been put together by the hands of these incredible artisans.
If you are looking for the perfect gift, this is it. It is one of those treasures that I’m almost too afraid to wear and yet when I do I feel as if it brought out the shine in my skin, the wisp in my hair and adds a luminosity to my face from feeling beautiful in it. Any of their hand-painted silks should be classified under the word – elegance in my opinion. They’re lovely, they’re personal and I’m honored to have been able to share this store with you.
