I don’t know about you, but I get bored easily. If I do something for too long, I need a little change to keep things interesting. It’s not that I can’t stick with an activity, but every once in a while I have to do something different. This applies to pretty much anything in life for me, but also in fitness.
I am usually a runner. That is my fitness activity of choice. I love the feeling of my legs pumping, my lungs burning yet feeling like they are able to hold so much more air than they ever could before. I love the feel of the sun on my face and the feel of the pavement beneath my feet. It is so exhilarating to push myself to go faster or run farther than I have before.
But there are times when the idea of hitting the jogging trail is completely unappealing. When I can’t seem to fathom lacing up my running shoes and putting one foot in front of the other. I am not sure why this happens really, but I get stuck in a rut and I don’t seem to want anything to do with running. So, what do I do to get myself out
I do something different. Right now it’s workout videos to help strengthen my legs and core. And you know what is happening? I want to run again. I am feeling that desire work within me to lace up my sneakers and hit the trail. I want that feeling of exhilaration again. And all because I allowed myself some time away from it. I didn’t quit altogether, I just allowed for some change. It is amazing to me how allowing change can actually help keep things moving forward. And as a side effect, my body will be stronger for the time spent on my core and leg strength…and I just might have found something else I enjoy, besides running!
