Gloria G. Brame, Ph.D.
Have you ever wondered why we think one type of sex is better than another? Are inhibitions or confusion about sex holding you back? Do you think you’re a sex addict? Have you given up on having good orgasms with your partner? Are you worried sex will break up your relationship? The Truth About Sex will set you free.
In the first of three books on the subject, Brame offers an open-minded and frank discussion about sex. For many people, sex is a dirty deed that nobody talks about, expect in hushed voices of scolding. Dr. Brame wants to put an end to this train of thought and help others realize that this biological need and desire is not dirty, shameful or “out of the norm.” She offers practical, unbiased advice (with a touch of charm and wit) that everyone should listen to. Dr. Brame’s advice is thorough and eye-opening without being obscene, erotic, or smutty.
I was personally surprised to see that so many people still found the subject of sex and their sexual lives as taboo. Perhaps it’s the fact that I’m part of the millennial generation or the nature I grew up in (and possibly a good mix of both), but I have always viewed sex as part of healthy, monogamous relationship and that whatever people do behind their own closed doors was their business. As I read the book, I found myself aligning with what Brame had to say and confused by how the patient in the book could view sex as they did. Then, it struck me. I’m just as naive about it as everyone else and was thankful I could read about these experiences in a safe way.
Now, I’m not disillusioned enough to say that everyone will agree with what she has to say. In fact, she backs up her words with twenty years of research and history as well as religious Christian views that may (wait for it) put some people’s panties in a twist. It still makes for a great read and is helpful for anybody embarking into their sexual life, as well as couples who need help understanding their own bodies as well as their partner.
Dr. Brame has started a great triology of books, that, if you allow them to, will help you develop, understand and enjoy your sex life more.
