I grew up eating BBQ. We probably have it at least once a week all year long. In the summer it is even more often as we tend to grill out a lot more. July is even grilling out month. I am always on the lookout for the perfect sauce. When I was given the chance to try out Stubb’s with products having that authentic Texas BBQ style, I was excited to see how my Florida taste buds would react.
Stubb’s is the only
mainstream national barbecue brand to carry the Gluten-Free
Certification Organization seal and contain no high fructose corn syrup,
yet retain their deep-rooted, authentic Texas tastes and barbecue
cook-off credibility.
Stubb’s full line now contains 6 sauces, 4 marinades, 2 injectable marinades, 5 rubs, a moppin? sauce and a wing sauce. First up we decided to try the original Bar-B-Q sauce. To make sure we were giving the sauce proper justice we decided to make the BBQ Cornbread Casserole straight from the recipe section on the website.
BBQ Cornbread Casserole
Ingredients
1 box cornbread mix (along with ingredients required for preparing batter)
1 ? lbs. ground beef
1 ? cup Stubb’s Original Bar-B-Q Sauce
1 15 oz. can pinto or black beans, rinsed and drained
1 15 oz. can corn, drained
2 cups shredded Cheddar or Colby Jack cheeseCooking Instructions
Preheat oven to 375?F. Grease a 9?13 baking dish.
In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium-high heat until
browned. Remove from heat and drain. Add beans and barbecue sauce.
Prepare cornbread batter according to package instructions. Pour
cornbread batter into the bottom of the greased baking dish. Spread
beef mixture evenly over the batter then top with corn. Sprinkle cheese
over the top and cook at 375?F for 30-35 minutes or until cheese is
fully melted and the casserole bubbles. Remove and let sit for 5
minutes before serving.
OPTIONAL: Garnish with sour cream and green onion.
We followed the directions exactly. We used Pinto beans in ours and did not use green onion garnish. It was so very tasty! I had never cooked with BBQ sauce in a casserole before! This was also a very simple recipe to make and offered plenty of food for a whole family to enjoy! Our leftovers sure did not last long!
I also got to try out some of their marinades and a rub.
I like that I can just put the sauce in a bag with the meat all day and it helps put the flavor into the meat. This is an easy way to spice up your meat on the grill too.
We also tried the BBQ rub with some brussel sprouts using another recipe from the recipe section while also using a marinade with some flank steak. AMAZING does not even begin to describe this meal! This will be the only way we ever serve brussels sprouts in our house!
Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Bacon
Ingredients
4 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
2 pounds Brussels sprouts
2 teaspoons Stubb’s Bar-B-Q Rub (or Stubb’s rub of your choice)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons canola, vegetable or grapeseed oil (or use reserved bacon grease)
Salt and pepper (if needed)Cooking Instructions
Preheat oven to 425?F. Cut Brussels sprouts in halves or quarters and
put them in a large bowl. Sprinkle the rub, Worcestershire and cooking
oil (or bacon grease) over the sprouts and mix until the sprouts are
evenly coated.
Spray a baking sheet tray (or line with aluminum foil or cooking
parchment paper) and put the Brussels sprouts on the tray, making sure
not to pour the excess liquid and oil on them. Roast for 7 minutes, then
stir them around and bake for another 5-7 minutes, or until browned and
crispy.
Remove the sheet tray from the oven, toss the crumbled bacon with the
sprouts, and serve the sprouts immediately, seasoning with more salt
and pepper if needed (since the rub contains both pepper and smoked
salt). This recipe was developed by Katie Machol of Culinary Pirate[1].
