Kindness Kingdom is the first board game from parent company Marvelously Well-Mannered; aimed at teaching young girls useful tips as they wander through the gemmed game path on the way to Queen Grace’s tea party. that’s all about teaching children social and emotional skills to help
them earn better grades and be better citizens in life….the absolute perfect board game for my 4.5 year old daughter! We LOVE board games in our house and I try and make them a part of our weekly routine. My oldest daughter has a strong willed personality and can be a little rough around the edges to say the least. I hoped by playing this game it might teach her a thing or two that she can take with her everywhere she goes.
Good manners are so critical in today’s global world that businesses
offer etiquette training for so-called “soft skills” like dining dos and
don’ts. There’s even a Protocol School of Washington? to teach
professional adults the rules of universal etiquette. One student of the
school, Jessica Marventano, joined forces with her mother Catherine
Wallace, both of whom are certified by the International School of
Protocol to teach manners to young children and teens. Sister Jennifer
Montesano, a marketing expert, joined the trio of businesswomen to
create Kindness Kingdom, the first board game that instruct young
“princesses” how to handle life’s little faux pas. The trio aptly named
their company Marvelously Well-Mannered, LLC.
It has a lot of little pieces so be careful when taking it apart. Husband was actually excited to play with me and Big Sis and he took over the part of being in charge of all the cards. I won’t lie that it was a little overwhelming at first learning how to play but after reading the rules over twice we all understood and we were able to play the game with enthusiasm.
The questions on the cards were fun. Sure some were super easy but I will admit that even I got a few genuinely wrong while playing the game. Here is a sample of one of the cards:
Big Sis did not get all the questions right but on the back with the answer was a more in depth correct answer and we would read them a loud so she would better understand. She was really trying to get the answers right so that she could fill up her charm bracelet.
An easy way to explain this game would be that it is a lot like trivial pursuit. You have to answer a question right from each of the main categories. With Kindness Kingdom you also get chances to collect extra charms on the way to the end of the game.
For some reason Husband really got into this game. Maybe it is because he took etiquette classes as a child….who knows?
The whole game was a ton of fun. The PERFECT addition to any family game night. It will definitely be put into regular rotation here in my household. It took us about an hour to play the first time but this was because we were constantly checking the rules to make sure we were playing correctly. I would say it would take 30-45 minutes regularly. I like that it takes this long because a lot of the games we own are really short and are done in only minutes. Instead this was like a “big kid” board game with a set up and real questions to answer. The perfect transition from baby board games to big kid games for sure.
Of course Big Sis insists on wearing her tiara or one of her many princess dresses while she plays.
When we were out and about the next day she would randomly say things like “it is important to be nice at dinner even if I look pretty…right Mama…that is what my new game said.” She also now has it in her mind that the fork and spoon at dinner now have to go on the correct sides of the plate. She definitely is picking up good habits from playing the game. Now if only I could somehow remember what side all the utensils go at a place setting things would be alright.
