To prepare the pretzel dough you take a large bowl and mix 1 1/4 cup of water with the Dry Yeast and let it stand for 2min. The water must be between 105′ – 114′, not exceeding 115′! Then after it sets for two minutes you mix in the Pretzel Mix with a rubber spatula or your hands. (There are directions for mixers.)
My family loves pretzels. Hard, soft, salty, sweet, large, small or even coated. It doesn’t matter, we love pretzels. My favorite pretzels are the ones you get when you are out shopping! Those extra large soft pretzels with light butter and salt dipped in nacho cheese, yum! I generally pop into Auntie Anne’s when I’m shopping at the mall so I’m quite familiar with the name and when I was told there as an At Home Baking Kit I had to review it!
Anne’s special recipe, just for at-home baking. Mix, twist, and bake 10 Original or Cinnamon Sugar Pretzels or 15 Pretzel Dogs.
Auntie Anne’s At Home Baking Kit contains everything you need outside of butter (if you want to lightly coat the pretzels) and water. It includes the Pretzel Mix, Dry Yeast, Baking Soda, Salt and Cinnamon and of course directions; which you should read very carefully so you do not mix the Baking Soda with the Pretzel Mix.

Once the dough is smooth and a little tacky you spray a bowl with non-stick spray and place it inside. Then coat a piece of plastic wrap with non-stick spray and tuck it over so the dough doesn’t dry out. Set it in a warm area (mine is on top of a pre-heating stove) for 30 min.
Next you make 8 to 10 strips with the dough and then stretch, pull and roll the strips out to be 1/2″ thick and 36″ across. 36″ sounds like a lot until you begin shaping the pretzels. If you are making different shapes you don’t have to make them as long. I did roll out long ropes and then sliced them into little pieces for Pretzel Bites.
The next thing to do is shape them. It has directions on how to make the pretzels as well as has other ideas for designs. Here we decided to do shapes! A triangle, a circle, a square and a heart!
After you have your shapes you mix the Baking Soda with 4 cups of warm/hot water until it’s dissolved. Spray a sheet down with non-stick spray to set them on and then you dip the pretzels into the baking soda water, set them on a paper towel to get rid of excess water and then set them on top of your sheet. After this you sprinkle on the salt!
(There are separate instructions for Cinnamon Pretzels.)
You bake the pretzels for 5 min and then turn the sheet, bake another two minutes and take them out. If you want to coat them with a little butter have a bowl of melted butter and a brush handy for when they come out. Then lightly brush on the butter and viola! Delicious at home Auntie Anne’s! If you want to see a video presentation you can watch one on Auntie Anne’s Youtube Channel!
The At Home Baking Kit is true to it’s marketing of being Auntie Anne’s at home. It was the exact same taste (maybe not the exact perfect shape) and the smell of them baking I wish I could bottle as an air freshener. These would make the perfect gift for a family and/or foodie. They’d also make a great treat for guests to any party! Make sure to check out all the other amazing recipes! Like Pizza and Monkey Bread!
