Based on the controversial life story of singer-songwriter, Hank Williams, THE LAST RIDE tells the powerful tale of country music’s original bad boy. The man, the myth and the music come together when Williams travels from Alabama to a series of New Years shows in West Virginia and Ohio. This remarkable journey leads straight into the heart and soul of the legendary performer…as he takes one last shot at redemption. Featuring all-new versions of Hank Williams’ greatest songs, this emotional tale of hope and truth is one you’ll never forget.
I can’t say I am a Hank Williams devotee to know enough about what are the facts in his story and what is not, but in the beginning of the show it states that “some of what follows is true”. Regardless of that bit, I thought the acting was well done and they had a great cast!
- Henry Thomas (Legends of the Fall) plays Hank Williams.
- Jesse James (The Butterfly Effect) as Silas.
- Fred Dalton Thompson (Law & Order) as O’Keefe.
- Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory) as Wanda.
- Stephen Tobolowsky (Glee) as Ray.
- Ray McKinnon (The Missing) as Stan.
The film gave me a lot more respect for Hank Williams and also just kind of made me sad thinking about how all the greats kind of went out the same way, especially during that time period. However, he left behind an amazing legacy that has lived through generations of Hank William’s – a part of him still lives on in American music and in this film.
Regardless of whether or not you are a huge Hank Williams fan or just want to watch a great film, The Last Ride has a lot of heart, drama and love. You can learn more about The Last Ride – A Story of Hank Williams, the character bios, Behind-the-Scenes and more on The Last Ride Official Website.
