My family loves the water. I’ve been swimming since I was about 5 and my children since about the same age. They quickly became water babies and there was no tearing them away. Years ago when the kids were a bit smaller, we went boating with some friends and just fell in love. So much in love, that my husband started scouring Craigslist looking for boats to buy. He soon found a pretty good deal and talked me into it. We drove all the way to Green Bay to look at it and came home with a boat hitched to the truck. We were first time boat owners and it was so exciting.
When we got home, the neighbors and my brothers (who lived 2 houses down at the time) came running down to the street to check out the new boat. It was such an exciting time for us all!
Our first time out, we went on Lake Michigan and it was so much fun. I swear, my husband had a permanent “cheesy” on his face the entire time he was driving. It was like a dream come true for him!
That summer was one of the best of our lives and I will never forgot those fantastic memories we made. We traveled across the area heading to local lakes like Wind Lake and Lake Beulah. We went tubing and swimming and diving and everything in between. We had chicken fights and went to boat tie off parties. It was the ultimate fun.
Now today we live on a lake – a very nice lake. But our boat is broken, so we haven’t had any fun on the water yet this year. I promised hubby we can fix it in a few weeks though. Then the tubing and water fun will begin again!

Boating is such a fun activity. I often think I could literally live on the water. It’s so relaxing, peaceful and fun. I’m not alone in those thoughts either because 36.6% of adults in the US participated in recreational boating last year. Children benefit from boating too and 91% of adults will agree with me. These benefits include getting outdoors, appreciating nature, spending quality time with family and disconnecting from technology.Of course fun is a huge factor too!
You can check out Discover Boating to learn all about the boating lifestyle and its enjoyments. Many lakes have places where you can rent boats, which is a lot of fun too! Check out this Boat Selector Tool where you can select the activities that interest you and be paired with the right type of boat to suit those interests.
