Lithium coin batteries are present everywhere. They’re in our watches, remote controls, garage door openers and medical devices. They are even in those cute little greeting cards that play songs for the recipient. It’s not uncommon for these batteries to wind up in the hands of children. That’s a really scary thought because battery ingestion could lead to serious injury or even death!
Kids often find batteries in places like drawers, devices and the trash can. As parents, it is our responsibility to keep these tiny little objects away from our children. Duracell has even taken steps to help by using child resistant packaging and putting warning stickers and engraving on the batteries. The infographic below shares some great information about Lithium Coin Battery Safety.
Here are some safety tips to keep batteries out of the reach of children.
- Secure battery compartments on all devices. You can use a tool if applicable, or just plain old tape.
- Store batteries out of your child’s reach. I suggest a high cabinet, shelf or drawer.
- Wrap used batteries in tape. Before throwing old batteries away, wrap it in some tape.
