This post has been written in partnership with Scholastic for the #SummerReading Campaign. All opinions are of my own.
Summer is in full swing but that doesn’t mean that we’ve been slacking on using our noggins this season. Just because the kids aren’t in school learning (well, aside from Big Bro in summer school), doesn’t mean they’ve taken off their thinking caps. The boys and I have spent a lot of time reading this summer and we’ve adventured through quite a few interesting books. While we’re all reading our own books, we still spend time reading together – like in the backyard, snuggled in bed or the backseat of the car on road trips.
So far, we’ve logged in over?1200 minutes of collective reading over the last 4 weeks during the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge – that’s 20?hours of reading between all of us! We’re on our way to help break the world record for summer reading – yay!
You can also help by participating in #MondayMinutesGoal, a weekly goal for kids to read in one week. Each Monday, Scholastic will announce a new?#MondayMinutesGoal and you can participate by doing the following 3 things:
- Have your child log his/her minutes on the SRC website or on a paper log/piece of paper
- Take a picture of him/her proudly displaying their minutes
- Share it on social using #MondayMinutesGoal and #SummerReading!
The Energizer Bunny has been on our reading mission with us during the last month and its helped us to “Power Up & Read”, this year’s challenge theme. By reading this summer, we’re helping to put a stop to the “Summer Slide”, something which many kids go through when they stop reading when school lets out for the summer. When your child logs their minutes and reach reading milestones, they’re able to unlock 12 original short stories by bestselling children’s authors. “Power Up & Read is in partnership with ENERGIZER? and runs through September 4, 2015. There are some great Scholastic Resources to keep your kids reading all summer long, so check them out!
