Right before summer break started my girls and I got together and decided to make it our fun summer goal to read over 100 children’s books this summer. They chose that number because of Big Sis’s new found love of all things 100. I thought the goal was pretty lofty but I am pretty sure we will be surpassing that goal. Here are 4 more picture books that have made for perfect reads for July and have been given thumbs up and enthusiastic smiles from my 3 and 6 year old daughters.

Little Miss will be a big sis. . . .
In the perfect follow-up to Plant a Kiss, Little Miss anticipates the momentous arrival of a new baby . . . and then experiences the wonders of being a big sis.
New York Times bestselling team Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Peter H. Reynolds have created a one-of-a-kind ode to the bestest big sisters everywhere.
Little Miss, Big Sis is an absolutely perfect book for a little girl that will be becoming a big sister. I wish I had this book when Big Sis was 2 and Lil Sis was on the way. It is written simply and in a way for younger kids to understand and enjoy. It lists for ages 4-8 but could easily be read to younger children. I did not read it to Lil Sis because I didn’t want her to think she was getting a new baby sibling! Big Sis thinks the book is adorable and she told me that is exactly how she felt when her sister came into the world…awe…that gives me the mommy feels.
Come on, Chickies, time to scrub!
Splash time, bathtime in the tub!
Jump in the tub in this playful bathtime book!
Bathtime For Chickies is a cute board book with fun rhyming words and adorable accompanying illustrations. A great book for babies, infants and toddlers. I don’t know why but I have always enjoyed books about bathtime and this one is as cute as they come!
The kitties on the bus say,
“Come on, Pete!
Come on, Pete!”The kitties on the bus say,
“Come on, Pete!
Hop on board!”
That cool Pete the Cat is a book series we never tire of reading. Pete the Cat: The Wheels on the Bus is a board book that is based on the popular children’s song….The Wheels On The Bus…of course. Pete the Cat is a groovy cat so this includes the stoic cat in fun illustrations while kids can sing along as the parents read.
Pete the Cat can’t wait to visit Grandma, especially because he gets to take a train ride to see her! The conductor gives Pete a tour of the train, and Pete gets to see the engine and honk the horn. He even makes new friends and plays games on board. What a cool ride!
For children still learning to read the I Can Read! book series is where it is at. Big Sis always gets a thrill out of reading a whole book by herself. The first step in the series is the Shared My First Reading (seen in the gold circle in upper right of book). That means the parents typically read the whole thing. The series progresses into 1, 2, etc. as kids start to read on their own. Pete the Cat’s Train Trip takes Pete, his brother and his mother on a train ride to visit Grandma. He gets to see all parts of the train and meets new friends that are also traveling to different places. In the end though it is all about seeing his Grandma!
These are such adorable books and even when I am not reading them to my girls I find them just browsing the books because the enjoy the colorful illustrations that much. Keep on reading!
