Ciao Bella was founded in 1983 and has been making delicious sorbetto and gelato since then. We are big fans of Ciao Bella in our household, there’s nothing that beats the sweet creamy taste of gelato on a hot summer or even fall day! I’ve slowly changed my husband from a strictly traditional ice cream eater, into a more refined cold treat snacker. And it was easy to do with Ciao Bella’s unfaltering attention to detail in every batch of deliciousness they create.
In the south, heat waves are still reigning supreme in mid-September. To cool off, I let Sonshine have a few spoonful’s of one of the tart and tangy, sweet and icy sorbetto’s line. Ten flavors in total, your family will find their own personal favorite and a few to share.
The Raspberry has been the four year olds favorite flavor for about a year now. The richly deep red color appeals to him and the flavor is sweet like a fresh raspberry. With a slick icy texture, the sorbetto melts easily on the tongue and isn’t as dense as your traditional ice cream is. The Sicilian Limone is my personal favorite, it’s like a frozen version of my favorite lemonade. (I’m a sucker for Sicilian lemonade!) Tart, tangy, and just slightly lip puckering, this flavor goes great on a spoon or thrown into a glass of limeade. The other eight flavors are nothing to sniff at either. I’ve been searching for the Bartlett Pear Hibiscus and White Peach Sangria for awhile now, along with more traditional flavors like Coconut and Alphonso Mango! Marion Blackberry Cabernet is perfect after a date night with it’s complex richness and subtle fruitiness.
Gelato is my favorite cold treat, trumping fro-yo and custard in spades. My husband and I decided to indulge in two new flavors we hadn’t tried before and we were not disappointed. The Bourbon Caramel Chocolate is decadent. The bourbon hits your taste buds first, in a smoky, deeply rich notes before smoothly transitioning into luscious chocolate and finishing off with sweet caramel. I wouldn’t do anything more than eat this straight from the container, maybe a bowl if we had company.
Caff? Macchiato is not a flavor I’ll be sharing anytime soon, but being the only coffee drinker in the house, it’s not too difficult. There are three types coffee, including 100% Arabica coffee beans blended into the mix, offering a complex and intense coffee flavor with a hint of sweetness. A scoop or two may have been a part of my morning coffee this morning, kick starting my day in perfect harmony.
The novelty treats are delicious on the go square sweetness that requires no clean up. Available in three different flavors, we grabbed each to see what we would like best! The youngest member of the family is in love with the Sea Salt Caramel. As one of the flavors du jour, the sea salt brings out the sweet flavor of the caramel, which is swirled with chocolate and nestled between two chocolate wafers, a real treat!
Key Lime Graham was my husbands favorite and that’s a real feat. I make my own key lime pie by squeezing key limes and he said this was a cold comparison. The gelato is creamy, tangy and has just the perfect balance of citrus. With the crumbles of graham in the gelato and the cookies on the outside, the whole thing just works wonderfully together, making it the perfect portable treat of the summertime classic.
My newfound favorite flavor is the Alba Hazelnut Dark Chocolate squares. A mouthful of a name, but a creamy taste of hazelnut gelato with ribbons of South American Dark Chocolate inside. So simply, but the soft flavor of hazelnut pairs wonderfully with the dark, slightly bitter chocolate. The hazelnuts used in the gelato come from Piemonte, a region of Northwest Italy, so they are high quality and just pushed over the edge with two chocolate wafers. My only complaint is that the box doesn’t replenish itself!
Having been a Ciao Bella fan for a couple years now, I’m enjoying watching the company grow and change with the years. Just last year, the containers we’re a bit flashy, with pull lids. I love the new sleek design with the screw top lids, much more eloquent and fitting for such wonderful, innovate company. But, it’s not about what’s on the outside, but the on the inside that counts, with quality ingredients and meticulous attention to details, Ciao Bella is a taste we’ll enjoy year round.
