Did you know the kitchen sponge is the dirtiest item in most homes? It can be almost 200,000 times dirtier than a toilet, which is just plain gross. I’m embarrassed to show what my kitchen sponge looks like, but here it is.
Yuck, right? I do my best to try and clean my sponge – I’ve put it in the dishwasher as well as microwaving it, but it just looks nasty. I swap it out for a new one fairly often, but it just always has a smell and looks gross no matter if I’ve used it for a few days or a few weeks. I was thrilled to try out the latest and greatest in kitchen innovation, the SpongeBath, because I knew it would help to keep my sponge clean and the stinky sponge smell at bay.
The SpongeBath is a sponge cleaner that kills odor causing bacteria. Every time you put your sponge in it, it’s antimicrobial, yet eco-friendly ingredients clean and freshen your sponge. Each SpongeBath refills lasts up to 30 days and there is a small red LED light that will turn on when it’s time to change the refill.
Setting up the SpongeBath is easy to do. After you put the refill into the SpongeBath and set the LED timer, it’s ready for your sponge. Make sure to leave your sponge in there for about 15 minutes for the most benefit. Also, it’s best to start with a brand new sponge because it pre-treats it and creates a protective barrier.
It comes with three mounting options – on the counter, in the sink, or it can be screwed into the back of a cabinet door (hardware is included). The SpongeBath is made in the USA and they try to use green products whenever possible in the product to help reduce their chemical footprint. The SpongeBath comes in red, black, and stainless and has a sleek design. It’s available for purchase at Bed, Bath and Beyond and is a must have in any kitchen.
