Wow – who can believe school has started in some parts of the country already. I have family who live in North Carolina and they are already back in school! We have three more week left of summer here, but I am already stressing over having to pack the kids lunch. Where my kids attend school, there is no cafeteria, so you must pack lunch daily. It gets old after the first day! There is no microwave for them to use, so it really limits your choices with picky eaters. I have one child who won’t eat peanut butter, deli meat, salad or anything else. It is a real struggle. I was so excited to when I read the tips below.
- Let your child choose their lunchbox – If your child is excited when they see their cool lunch box, they?ll probably be more excited about eating the great food you?ve packed for them. Insulated lunch totes can also keep your juice, deli meats, and yogurts fresh until lunchtime.
- Put your 100% juice boxes in the freezer – 100% fruit juices are a smart addition to any well-balanced diet, providing vitamins and minerals like potassium, vitamin C and folate. Fruit juice is also a convenient way for children to have their serving of fruit. Freezing the juice box will also act as an icepack and keep the rest of your child’s lunch fresh and cold.
- Pack lunch according to school lessons ? For example, when your kids are learning about Johnny Appleseed, pack them an ?apple-filled? lunch with a turkey sandwich with apple slices on it, a box of 100% apple juice, and maybe even a slice of apple pie or another fruit filled treat. There are plenty of school lessons and holidays that can be used to make lunch fun.
- Include a fun treat – Everyday add something different. A note from mom or maybe the dog J, a sticker to trade with friends, even a clue to the fun activity you are doing after school. This will give your child a connection and remind them that you are always thinking of them.
