How is your health care coverage? Does it cover everything you need it to, or are you stuck with a lot of out of pocket expenses?
My family’s coverage isn’t the greatest. Of course there are the co-pays and deductibles, but we’re stuck with out of pocket expenses for prescriptions quite often too. In fact, one time the insurance wouldn’t even cover a prescription and there were no generic brands available. I ended up forking out over $100!
A major illness or injury could strike at any time. Of course for most people, things happen suddenly and unexpectedly. You may not be prepared fro the costs associated with your care, including getting to and from the Doctor, childcare or even your monthly bills if you are unable to work because of your illness or injury.
Supplemental insurance policies can really come in handy during these hard times. They provide an added layer of coverage that can help to offset some of the costs. These benefits can be used for medical expenses and your living expenses, so you won’t have to worry about a ton of other things aside from your illness or injury. That can really bring great peace of mind.
The image below shows the Real Cost Calculator and what the expenses would be if I broke my leg. The total would be over $11,000 with almost $1,500 in out of pocket expenses. That’s just crazy!
I put in a few other scenarios and the results were even more shocking! If I found out tomorrow that I had Breast Cancer, I could expect those expenses to be around $72,000. My costs would be around $68,000 if I had a stroke. Those costs are scary to me and we would likely end up struggling big time just to make ends meet.
After seeing those results, I will be digging a little deeper and am considering adding a supplemental insurance policy. You never know what life will throw at you and I don’t want to be caught off guard in a way that could potentially ruin our lives!
