Tribe first introduced hummus to the United States in 1993 in Boston. The original Tribe hummus flavor, Classic, became a favorite in America in only four months, and shortly thereafter Tribe’s many hummus flavors became a staple among American households.
I can’t remember the fist time I had hummus. But when I was a vegetarian, it became one of the main staples of my diet and I could devour a whole bucket of it, you know, if I ever felt so inclined. Which still remains with me to this day. It’s creamy, smooth body just feels wonderful against your taste buds and the fact that hummus can take on just about any tangy or savory flavor, makes it a fantastic condiment, dip, or snack right off the spoon (or finger). But I’ve learned over the past decade or so, not all hummus is created equal and if you’re going to buy a container of it, you better by the best.

I’m one of Tribe Hummus biggest fans. I lurk their Facebook page and get giddy when they respond, so to get the chance to review them (again) made my chickpea loving soul giddy! I’ve tried a lot of different brands of hummus, but I always come back to Tribe. So, I dropped all pretenses and only buy Tribe now. Although there are different flavors available, they all start out with the same base of rich, decadent, creamy, smooth cooked chickpeas, tahini, and love.
That’s the back label from Tribe Classic Hummus. You can read, pronounce, and understand everything that is in the ingredients. It’s not processed, full of preservatives, or anything weird. And that nutritional fact label doesn’t read too shabby either! Though I hate to admit, I probably eat way more than two tablespoons per serving!
Can you tell my favorite? There is only one grocery chain around here that sells Tribe and with a limited selection of their vast line, but they always carry my personal favorite, Mediterranean Style. It’s pretty genius in the simplicity, Tribe took their Classic flavor and added a drizzle of olive oil and a spackling of paprika. Tear up some homemade pita bread and dive in and you’ll see why I’m in love. Sounds like a simple flavor but it really dances on your taste buds! I also love what used to be a Limited Edition flavor: Everything. As a fan of the everything bagel, you’ll find the whole shebang on top of this Tribe hummus! Garlic, poppy seeds, onion, and sesame seeds, the Everything hummus goes great smeared on an everything bagel or a turkey sandwich! Just make sure you have a mint after eating any, the garlic is delicious but powerful!
I’m holding out that soon my area with have some of the many delicious flavors I see others bragging about. The Zesty Lemon sounds like the perfect tang and savory for veggies in the summertime or smothered on some grilled chicken. The Sundried Tomato & Basil sounds right up my alley as well, there’s something about complex, tangy, and slightly acidic tomatoes paired with sweet basil that just yells eat me! Looking for something more exotic like eggplant or do you crave to burn your taste buds off? Tribe has you covered, check out all of their products and discover your own favorite flavor!
Need one more push to try Tribe? There three line of Hummus: Organic, All Natural, and Family size are made in the United States, just a few miles south of Boston. And they are all free of artificial flavors, preservatives, hydrogenated oils, and high-fructose corn syrup! So the next time you’re out shopping, make sure you grab a container or three of Tribe Hummus and nourish your soul and stomach.
