It’s that time of year again – gift giving season. I always try to get a head start and oftentimes I do – at least a pretty decent head start. But what in the world do I do with all of the gifts for my kids and my brothers? They’re all tweens/teens and it’s nearly impossible to keep things hidden from them!
When I took a look at the Target Kids Gift Detective Tips from Retired CIA intelligence officer Jonna Mendez, a light bulb went on in my head. I knew just the perfect place to hide their gifts – in a suitcase!
We have a few of them lying around and they’re always in the very back of my closet, with other travel bags inside. The kids would never even think to look in it because they know it’s filled with other bags! I just scrunched the other bags together, put them into a large carry on and really I doubt they’ll ever notice!
I just have a handful of gifts for them so far and they fit perfectly into the smaller of the two suitcases. Once I get more gifts for them, I’ll store them in the giant suitcase I have. It’s perfect!
Here are some more clever gift storage tips from Jonna Mendez:
- Kids? Gift Detective Tip 1: Hide the gifts in plain sight. Parents often go to great lengths to hide gifts in what tend to be most obvious places for kids to look. So this year, try hiding the gifts in boxes that are always stored in the garage or laundry room, or under the sink behind the cleaning products kids know not to touch, or in the linen closet behind the guest towels. Kids expect gifts to be completely hidden and not easily accessible.
- Kids? Gift Detective Tip 2: Disguise the gifts as everyday items. For smaller gifts, try hiding in your sock drawer inside the socks or inside the box of healthy mom-and-dad cereal that kids don?t go near. For larger gifts, hide them in suitcases that are rarely used or zipped up inside garment storage backs that hold off season clothes.
- Kids? Gift Detective Tip 3: Hide the gifts at someone else’s house. If you have older kids or kids that are sneaky, ask a relative or friends to store a few of your top gifts.
