The movie Tiger Rising is told through the eyes of Rob Jr., an imaginative 10-year old boy who is dealing with the loss of his mother and new living circumstances. The film takes us into the mind of Rob’s magical imagination — the way he sees his world and how he copes with his circumstances — his drawings and carvings taking on a life of their own. Rob’s friend Sistine is dealing with the pain of her parents’ divorce. Each child is dealing with pain in a different way, but they are just what the other needs to help them get over their loss and separation.

This film comes with Educational Resources for teachers to use if they choose to read the book The Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo in class. I always loved reading a novel and then watching the movie that was created from the book. The Tiger Rising is perfect for the whole family to watch and it has such valuable lessons for children dealing with loss.
