Home ownership is an investment, and should be looked at as such. There are numerous things that you can do inside and out to add even more value to your home, thus potentially making you some money when it is time to sell. As many of you know, we’ve been working on indoor and outdoor projects on our home for some time now, so I’ve got some possible money making exterior home improvement ideas that I would like to share with you. This is a sponsored post, though all opinions are my own.
What are some exterior home improvement ideas that can add value to your home?
The way that your home looks from the outside can play a big part in the value of your home. An exterior that hasn’t been maintained will likely have any potential buyers assume that the inside is not maintained either, thus resulting in a lower asking price if you’re looking to sell quickly. There are projects large and small that you can complete to add more value to your home, and make it more visually appealing at the same time.
New siding
Whether you do a complete residing job, or paint/stain your existing siding, updating the siding most definitely adds curb appeal to your home. Installing new siding will also add significant value to your home. In fact, replacing siding increases home value by 76.7% of the project cost, according to Remodeling Magazine’s 2018 Cost vs. Value Report. I would have to say, that is well worth the investment.
Replacing windows
Installing new windows will make your home more energy efficient, which is something that is big on a buyer’s list. New windows will likely make your home look better from the outside as well, so there is that curb appeal factor again. In fact, according to this article, new windows and siding offer the largest return when it comes to selling. That’s how much the exterior of your home matters!
Adding or updating a deck
This is another project that can really increase the curb appeal for your home. If an existing deck is in disarray, that can pose as a safety hazard, in addition to making it an eye sore. To build a new deck, you c an either use lumber or composite decking. Perhaps the deck is in good shape, but the paint or stain could use updated. This is a very simple DIY project that you could do yourself to update your home, and for a fraction of the cost.
Now, perhaps your home is on a lake or a river, you will want to factor in the dock too. That will need to be in tip top shape, and new dock construction may be necessary.
These are just a handful of the projects that you can complete to update your home, and increase its value. Once you have the outside looking in pristine condition, you may want to move inside, and complete some indoor projects to update your home. The good news is that there are many projects around the home that are easy enough for one to complete themselves, which can save you some money in the long run, while also increasing your homes value.
