Is your daughter or her friends obsessed with mermaids? My daughter’s friends are TOTALLY obsessed with mermaids so for their birthdays I have been painting them signs for their bedroom doors!? You don’t have to be an artist to create these cute door hangers.? The mermaid would have been harder if I had included the mermaid’s body and head.? However I only included the mermaid’s tail and the name of my daughter’s friend.? This DIY Mermaid Door Hanger is perfect for little girls that are obsessed with mermaids.
Materials:
- Canvas board 81/2 X 10 inches
- Wire ribbon
- Hotglue
- Hotglue Gun
- Acrylic paint
STEP 1: The first thing you need to do is decide which direction you want your door hanger I chose a vertical composition, but you could also create a horizontal composition.? I always draw everything out first so that I don’t make a mistake when I begin painting.
STEP 2:? Once my drawing was complete I chose to paint the tail first.? I chose to leave out all the scales on the mermaid tail, but feel free to add details on yours.? If you look closely at the fin you can see how I was blending my acrylic paints to get it to blend.? I only used three colors: pink, teal and aqua the rest are just the colors blended together.
STEP 3:? When you finish painting your door hanger you will need to tie your bow and hotglue it to the back of your door hanger.? I like to take a needle and thread to secure my bow so that it does not come undone by tacking it.? You can choose to do the same or not.? My children are rough so I make sure anything I create can take a beating.
