But when Lewis soon finds out he’s in the presence of magic practiced by his uncle and neighbor Mrs. Zimmerman (Blanchett), his new town’s dreary aura boosts to life in an exciting and dangerous way. Based on the beloved children’s classic book written by John Bellairs and illustrated by Edward Gorey, The House With a Clock in its Walls is written by Eric Kripke (creator of TV’s ?Supernatural?) and co-stars Kyle MacLachlan (?Twin Peaks,? Inside Out), Colleen Camp (Clue), Ren?e Elise Goldsberry (?One Life to Live?), and Sunny Suljic (Mid90s, The Killing of a Sacred Deer). It is produced by Mythology Entertainment’s Brad Fischer (Shutter Island) and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac), as well as Kripke.

Big Sis is 10 and we cuddled up to watch this movie together as Lil Sis at 7 declared it “too scary” after watching a preview for it. We both LOVED it because it felt exciting and interesting and brought the elements of magic into a fun film.?Lewis’ parents die so he is forced to live with an Uncle…whom he has never met.?Uncle Jonathan seems to have no real rules and allows cookies for meals but Lewis quickly discovers something is strange in the house because especially at night peculiar things happen. Kids at school say the house is haunted! Mrs. Zimmerman the neighbor seems a little magical as well and Lewis soon discovers they do practice magic and he is allowed to learn too! Uncle Jonathan warns there is a some kind of ticking doomsday clock hidden somewhere in its walls. The three main characters are enjoyable to watch and we see them form a sort of family for Lewis throughout the movie. There are simple scares and creepy things which is why it was great for my 10 year old but not really for my 7 year old so I am glad she sat this one out. Overall a fun Jack Black movie that kids and tweens will enjoy!
The film will be available on 4K Ultra HD in a combo pack which includes 4K Ultra HD Blu-rayTM, Blu-rayTM and Digital. The 4K Ultra HD disc will include the same bonus features as the Blu-rayTM version, all in stunning 4K resolution. Entertaining from start to finish, this is an exciting adventure for families to watching during the holidays.
