Grandma at 40. Those are 3 words that I never thought I would say together in the same sentence, most certainly not about me. But life is full of twists and turns, it always seems.
Last month, just before Big Bro turned 19, a couple of weeks before my 40th birthday, he dropped the bomb. His girlfriend is pregnant and I am going to be a grandma.
At first, it was shock, for me. My husband went ballistic. I just couldn’t even say anything or wrap my head around it for that matter. But soon enough, our emotions calmed, and the realization hit that he is just over a year younger than I was when I got pregnant with him. Granted, I was about a decade more mature at that age and had already lived an adult type life since the age of 14, he still isn’t that much younger than I was when I got pregnant with him.
Within days, we had fully embraced the fact that we will be grandparents in May and we have pledged our support of him, his girlfriend and the new baby. One and a half months later, I am actually pretty excited. I get to have all of the joys of a baby around again, without having to give birth.
They will all stay with us for awhile, so that they can get on their feet and provide a good life for the baby. I’m even celebrating on the blog, with a Baby Shower Guide in February!
Stay tuned for more things baby related, and updates along the way!
