Jurassic Park was one of the first “adult books” I read when I was young and I was instantly hooked. I LOVE the movies and all the books and I have hooked Big Sis into the franchise as well. Since we love the movies and board games Jurassic Park DANGER! sounded like the perfect game for us. It has dinosaurs hunting down the characters from the original movie as they simultaneously try and escape the island without being eaten. ?Hold onto your butts,? Jurassic Park Danger! is available just in time for the 25th anniversary of the original film.
The first visitors have arrived at Jurassic Park? to see its miraculous dinosaurs firsthand. But chaos has hit Isla Nublar? the power is out, and the prehistoric creatures are on the hunt! One player controls the T. rex, Dilophosaurus, and Velociraptor, prowling through the jungle to attack the humans. The other players team up as characters from the classic movie, struggling to get Jurassic Park? back online and escape the island before they fall prey!
I will start out by saying this is an excellent strategy game and the 10+ age suggestion is accurate. Big Sis is 9 but she has a lot of game play experience so it was not a problem for her to play. It is for 2-5 players and it takes about 50 minutes to play one game. This game has a very high learning curve the first time you play. It took us 2 hours to get through that first game because we were constantly referring back to the rules since I am a stickler for accurate game play. Now that we know how to play it is smooth sailing…or should I say…fast running through the jungle.

I can’t really go into a description of game play because it is very involved. I HIGHLY suggest checking out this video below that explains the entire game play in 6 minutes. I consider it a must-see before playing the first time. The Rules Girl explains the whole game in an easy to understand way.
Each character has a certain goal they must achieve before they can head to the helicopter and escape. What makes it fun is that each goal is based off what that character did in the movie. The goal for each character is different and in the end the character you start out with will most likely not survive. You instead will re-spawn as a different character and work on their goal and escaping the island. Once the three main tasks are complete they stay complete even if the character that achieved it is killed. So sometimes it might take a human sacrifice to get others off the island.
When you are playing with 3 or more players the human characters work together against the person playing as the dinosaurs. This makes it part cooperative board game which can be fun. If just two people are playing then one plays as the dinosaurs and the other person plays as 2 characters at the same time. I promise it gets easier after you play the first time!
Players will have to run, climb and sneak their way through the island and then to the helicopter pad. Even when they are attacked they do not get eaten right away so there is still time to achieve the goals and escape. Don’t give up! If you are a dinosaur there will be plenty of opportunities to attack the characters before they escape. Dinosaurs also run, club and sneak around the island.
