One year ago, a revolutionary series of #STEM books for kids was launched. The first Baby University books ? Quantum Physics for Babies, Rocket Science for Babies, ABCs of Mathematics, ABCs of Science, Goodnight Lab, and others ? have gone on to sell over 430,000 copies! You can check out my past review of the first 4 titles in this amazing series HERE. I am writing today to share with you some new titles in the series that continue the theme of sharing science with even the littlest of readers!
These books are breaking the all the “rules” regarding board books. No counting of 10 sheep in the barn here. Children today are growing up in a world full of technology so their books should teach them about their every day lives. The ABCs of Science is an alphabetical installment of the Baby University series that is the perfect introduction for even the youngest scientists! In this book A is for Amoeba, B is for Bond and C is for Conductor. A colorful yet simple introduction to physics concepts for every letter of the alphabet. Written by an expert, each page in this science primer features multiple levels of text so the book grows along with your little scientist. In a way this book is good for my baby, my kindergartner and my 3rd grader as there is something for each of them to learn on every page!
They are also collaborating with other experts in science and technology, and covering even more complex subjects, such as Quantum Computing for Babies, with co-author William Hurley! More commonly known as whurley, he is an American entrepreneur and quantum computing rock star. Readers will discover that the wild world of atoms never comes to a standstill.
Ferrie’s newest scientific parody, Scientist, Scientist, Who Do You See?, features some of the world’s greatest scientists and how they changed the world. In the back of the book is a section with brief biographical information on the featured scientists. This one is not a board book but made like a typical picture book but its contents are anything but typical. It features some awesome scientists and it is written in rhyming format that kids LOVE!
Chris Ferrie is an award-winning physicist and is the senior lecturer for Quantum Software and Information at the University of Technology Sydney. He has a Masters in Applied Mathematics, BMath in Mathematical Physics and a PhD in Applied Mathematics. He lives in Australia and is also the father of four budding young scientists. Chris originally wrote and self-published Quantum Physics for Babies and Rocket Science for Babies as a way to each his children science and technology concepts early. Ferrie believes introducing babies & toddlers to math and science promotes literacy in these subjects when they encounter them in school.
These are some of my go-to books for reading to Baby Sis even though she is only 9 months old. I want to encourage all 3 of my girls to pursue science in every way possible and that starts right at home with reading books with S.T.E.M. foundations. I encourage everyone to check out the Baby University Series and be pleasantly surprised that not all baby books are the same!
