Summer is here and we have been keeping super busy which also includes a lot of lounging around the house reading. Here is a small collection of titles from Gibbs Smith Publishing that are already hits around this house.

The Doodle Diary is an interactive guide to doodling that uses prompts to teach girls how to combine images with words to form art journaling techniques. Each prompt describes clear explanations, instructions and inspirations. Every page set prompts a different project using a different artistic medium. Such as pasting a photo then doodling over the image to remake it your very own. Another favorite page for Big Sis is for movie reviews. Add your recent movie stubs or photos from ads to enhance the page. Whether you want to doodle about your day, make lists of your favorite things, or just write down goals and daydream, Doodle Diary is a great way to learn about art while having fun.
What I especially like about the Doodle Diary is that for someone like Big Sis she would have no idea what to write in a diary if she was just given a blank one. The prompts are what get her really excited about this book. She can read and follow directions so she loves writing in her diary through this method. A great way to keep kids writing during the summer break.
With a baby girl on the way my older two are loving our new routine of reading to my belly. Big Sis especially LOVES to read board books to her and she tells me all the time she will re-read them to her once she gets here. BabyLit books are so incredibly awesome and easily some of my all time favorite baby books! They are based of classic works of literature but written for babies in board book format.
Moby-Dick: A BabyLit Ocean Primer is a book where Little Master Melville teaches little ones the language of the sea. From ships and sailors to squawking gulls and moody good captains, Alison Oliver’s brilliant illustrations and Jennifer Adams? clever, simple text will make a sea dog out of any young shipmate.??
Pride & Prejudice: A BabyLit Counting Primer lets you introduce your little bibliophile to the romantic world of Jane Austen. Stroll through 1 English village to meet 2 rich gentlemen and discover what happens when the 5 Bennet sisters encounter 4 marriage proposals!
The Jungle Book: A BabyLit Animals Primer ventures deep into the jungle on an animal-naming safari. Spy a sneaky snake, a lazy bear, and a proud panther before roaring like a tiger into the night. Jennifer Adam’s carefully curated quotations provide the best of Rudyard Kipling’s descriptions of Kaa, Baloo, Bagheera, Shere Khan and more while teaching little ones the characteristics of these colorful jungle animals.
These BabyLit Board Books & Doodle Diary are a great way to keep up reading during the relaxing summer months. I am a firm believer in reading in the summer…even for babies! A lifelong love of reading starts at home!
