A mansion full of world famous detectives, a test of deductive skills, a prize on the line, a murder–who will be the world’s greatest detective and solve the case in Caroline Carlson’s brand new middle grade mystery, The World’s Greatest Detective?
Toby Montrose is not the World’s Greatest Detective. He’s not a detective at all, actually. But he sees his chance to prove he could be by entering Hugh Abernathy’s crime-solving contest in his uncle’s place. Ivy Webster is the best detective around. At least, she thinks she is. But she can’t show off her sleuthing skills and take the title because she’s not allowed to join the investigators’ ranks, even though the competition is being held at her house. Then Hugh Abernathy is found murdered before the games begin and his death becomes the World’s Greatest Mystery. And Toby and Ivy may be the only two who can crack the case.
Caroline Carlson holds an MFA in Writing for Children from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She is an assistant editor of Children’s and Young Adult Literature at the literary journal Hunger Mountain. Before writing her first book, she worked as a textbook editor and helped to organize the children’s summer reading program at her hometown library. Caroline grew up in Massachusetts and now lives with her family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
This could be a great summer read for kids ages 8 to 12 since kids love a good mystery! Finding new and exciting titles for summer is a great way to get kids reading during the summer!
