We’re not “well off” by any means so I really do expect my kids to help out and “earn” the extra things that they want. This helps them to not only learn responsibility, but also appreciate the value of money. I’m sure their wives will thank me?one day too since they will help out with housework!
Teaching Kids Responsibility Through Chores
Set?weekly chores
Taking care of the house consumes an awful lot of time and when both parents in a household work, it’s really hard to keep up with the daily and weekly tasks that need to be done. Kids can help with chores to free up some time and teach them responsibility at the same time. Give them a specific job to do each day or week like taking out the garbage or feeding the pets. Older kids like mine can help out with bigger chores too.
Smartphones are a privilege
Many kids nowadays have smartphones and I see so many that think it’s their right to have one. But it really isn’t and it’s a large monthly expense so we made a deal with Big Bro when he got his phone that he would be in charge of washing and drying (not folding) the clothes. Now that Lil Man has a phone, he helps with the laundry. As a mom, I love that I no longer have to worry about that tedious chore!
Fun costs money
Now that my boys are teens, they like to go to the movies or out to eat with their friends. I’ll usually have them do chores like sweeping and mopping in exchange for the money that I give them.
You’ll definitely want to have the tools on hand for your kids to help out with chores and I have become quite partial to the Libman brand of mops and brooms. We’ve had the Libman Precision Angle Broom for awhile now and it’s the first broom hat we haven’t had to replace. Since I liked it so much, I recently bought the Libman Wonder Mop and that hing really is a wonder.
We have a lot of pets ion our home so our floors need washed often and the Wonder Mop lifts up to 20% more dirt thanks to its Microfiber GRIPSTRIPS?. My floors even dry faster thanks to the power wringer that allows more water to be wrung out from the mop head and the ultimate kicker is that the Wonder Mop head can be washed up to 50 times!
