Down here in Florida we are prepping for beach weather already. We head to the beach a few times each year and we normally have one big beach trip as well. I have two beachcombers that absolutely love collecting shells. Into the Field Guide: A Walk on the Beach by Laurie Goldman is a book set with Treasure Box to get little collectors learning more about everything you find at the beach.

The book is full of interesting facts and beachcombing tips. The treasure box that holds it all together includes: book, mesh bag and bug magnifier. (Book also available separately, here). I plan to use the shell bag as a guideline….they can’t bring it home if it does not fit in the bag. Otherwise my girls want to bring home more shells than our house can manage!
Laurie Goldman is a marine biologist and science journalist. She lives on Cape Cod with her husband and two children.
These two shells are Lil Sis’ favorites from our weekend beach trip last year. She told me only her “most special” shells will go in this treasure box. The set is listed as ages 5+ and that is pretty accurate for my 5 and 8 year old daughters. They both LOVE me to read the book and they love finding shells to match those they see in the book. It is kind of like a game we all play to see if we can find the correct name for each type of shell.
Overall I absolutely LOVE this set. It is cute, educational, fun and has items that really get my girls interested in learning more about shells and the beach. A definite keeper on our bookshelf!
