I have always had a huge love of super heroes. When I was little my mom would even indulge me and let me get pajamas from the boy section because back then there were no super hero pjs for girls. My love of the fantasy world only grew as I aged and I absolutely love how these things are considered “cool” nowadays. The shear number of books you can find on super heroes is huge and I am here to share with you 3 that I think are particularly awesome. The Official DC Super Hero Cookbook: Deluxe Edition, The Big Book of Girl Power and DC Super Heroes: My First Dictionary from Downtown Bookworks are ones both my 5 and 8 year old daughters keep picking up and reading time and time again.
The Official DC Super Hero Cookbook: Deluxe Edition by Matthew Mead is soooo cool! My husband is the true chef in our family and with most meals he lets the girls help out. He wants them to be able to cook family meals for themselves as they grow older and actually enjoy the whole process. A whole cookbook dedicated to the awesomeness of different DC super heroes is just that much more special. It is a 128-page, full-color book complete with 60+ simple, tasty recipes as well as 3 cookie cutters (a bat, a lightning bolt, and a shield), logo stencils and character cut-outs for awesome food styling. From the Up, Up and Away Parfait to Green Arrow Fruit Kebobs to Holy Guacamole and the Martian Manhunter Malted. The recipes are fun to prepare and to eat. Fans of all ages will even enjoy flipping through finish photos featuring classic DC comics art and action figures. An extensive super hero party section offers dozens of drinks, snacks, and desserts as well as cool, clever serving suggestions.
I will admit we didn’t even own a dictionary in my house before this week. As a child I remember our children’s dictionary with pictures and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Now we own the DC Super Heroes: My First Dictionary so my kids can learn how to look up a word they don’t know all by themselves. It features more than 500 words, including basic vocabulary and super hero terms. Each word is paired with a simple sentence and illustrated with classic DC art.
DC Comics: The Big Book of Girl Power by Julie Merberg is an action-packed picture book showcasing DC’s super heroines including Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Raven, Bumblebee, Katana and many more. Inspiring origin stories, original art, and an impressive array of superpowers make this the must-have book for young super heroines.
These books are colorful, fun, interesting and best of all my two girls love them! Super heroes are just so cool and I want my girls to love them as much as I do. These books bring out the fun and they want me to read them over and over again. Big Sis likes to especially read the cookbook and meal plan for the family….it is adorable! These would would make a great addition to any super hero fan’s bookshelf.
