I absolutely love books that are part of a series! It is because I never want the story to end and when there is another book with the same characters then it feels like it lasts longer. Last year I read Bella Donna: Coven Road and this year the adventure continues with Bella Donna: Too Many Spells. This chapter book for kids ages 7 to 10 is about a little witchling, magic and believing in yourself.
Bella Donna seems just like any other student at her school, but she has a secret: she’s really a witch! The other witches who live on Coven Road are having a spell casting contest, and Bella is determined to win. She’s trying to learn as many spells as she can, and that’s no small thing! It’s not easy to complete secret magic training while trying to live a normal-kid life. When strange things start to happen at school and begin to spin out of control, Bella wonders if she can really do it. Maybe there are just too many spells!
This book is great timing for the “spooky” time of year. Once again we see the adorable young witch, Bella Donna, and this time she wants her adoptive mom to be proud of her. She figures entering and winning a spell casting contest is the perfect way to achieve that! She is practicing really hard and trying not to think too much about her real schoolwork. The problem is strange things start happening around the school that seem a little magical and she can’t quite figure it out. Instead all she can focus on is the contest. Bella Donna: Too Many Spells has a good mix of text and black and white illustrations that even reluctant readers will enjoy. Bella Donna might be a little bit different but her friends and family like her for exactly who she is and we all get a dose of life lessons along the way. A series little girls should really check out!
