It’s back to school season and as we’re getting ready to shop?for new clothing and supplies, I’m also thinking about lunchtime. I prefer to send the kiddos off with a lunch from home so that I know they’re eating a balanced meal?and because let’s face it, school lunches are expensive! But they’re teens and I can’t just drop the typical stuff in their lunch bag and be done with it. I have to get a little more creative, while still keeping it “cool” enough to save them the dreaded lunch table embarrassment. So I’ve partnered with Nature’s Harvest? Bread and Entenmann’s? Little Bites? Snacks to share some?lunch ideas fit for the big kids!
Lunch Ideas for the Big Kids
It’s all about balance when it comes to their lunches and I like to make sure they’ve got protein, veggies and fruit.?Of course they expect a snack thrown in there somewhere so that’s why I try to choose something sensible like?Entenmann’s? Little Bites? Snacks. The Blueberry Muffins are a favorite in our household.
It all starts with the sandwich.
A triple Decker Club Sandwich is on the menu during our busy summer day and it’s one of their favorites for school lunches too. We load the layers together, starting with a slice of?Nature’s Harvest Bread, Honey Wheat then loading it with lettuce, American cheese and turkey, then another slice of?Nature’s Harvest Bread, Honey Wheat.
But that baby’s not done yet because I’ve got hungry teens to feed and boy can they eat! The next layer is tomato (fresh from the garden!), ham and Pepper-jack cheese, topped with a third slice of?Nature’s Harvest Bread, Honey Wheat. It’s a sandwich fit for a king and big enough to fill these growing boys up!
The sandwich had their protein and veggies covered, and even some dairy. Fruit is always in order so I loaded?a silicone baking cup with some tasty red grapes and some Entenmann’s? Little Bites? Snacks for a sensible treat. A divided container is perfect to pack a lunch like this in!
