My 7 year old is really starting to enjoy chapter books and it makes me so happy. I usually read them to her but a select few of them she will pick back up and read them to herself too. One of her more recent favorites is Stick Dog Tries to Take the Donuts which I reviewed a few months ago. She has taken that one to school with her and I have caught her reading it while lounging around the house. It is a really fun book but clearly she loves it more than I do. I can honestly say we were both were excited to see the new book, Stick Cat: A Tail of Two Kitties, by Tom Watson come out this week. For ages 8 to 12 this book is all about the new pet in town…Stick Cat!
There’s a new pet in town: Stick Cat! Perfect for fans of Big Nate, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and the Stick Dog books, Stick Cat features Tom Watson’s trademark combination of laughs, adventure, and hilarious stick-figure drawings.
It’s a big day in the big city for Stick Cat and his best friend, Edith. There are treasures to hunt, songs to sing, pigeons to catch, and naps to take. But way up on the twenty-third floor, danger lurks just around the corner. Terrible noises and violent crashes trap a desperate man in the building across the alley. Stick Cat will need to navigate his way across the alley?and around Edith’s peculiar ways?to attempt a rescue.
Stick Cat’s high-wire act is sure to please cat lovers and Stick Dog fans everywhere.
The story is made to look like it is written on notebook paper with pencil like doodles throughout the whole book. A kid is writing the Stick Cat story while in his English class. He normally writes stories about Stick Dog but an interesting girl in his class suggests he write about cats. So that is exactly what he does and the story of Stick Cat is started. This is an adorable book and my daughter is already claiming she likes Stick Cat more than Stick Dog but that is just her thoughts today. Overall this is a fabulous book series we just can’t get enough of.
