Our weekly game night tradition continues and this year has brought on some awesome new games for my family to enjoy. Here is a review of 4 great games for the whole family to enjoy from Set Enterprises, Inc. a small woman-owned game company. Marsha Falco, their founder and game inventor, started the company in 1990 with a single game called SET.? Twenty-five years later the company is owned and operated by her daughter, Colette Falco. It now has a global presence; Marsha’s games are sold in over 40 countries. Set Enterprises offers an exceptional line of America’s Favorite Card Games: Five Crowns, Quiddler, Karma and of course, SET!

Quiddler Junior is a word game for ages 6+ and takes around 40 minutes per game. Each card contains a short word and colorful illustration making it fun and easy to play and learn. You earn points by arranging the cards in your hand into one or more words. Each round the number of cards dealt increases starting with two cards per person and going to seven cards per person. This changes the difficulty level as you play. Players draw and discard until someone forms their entire hand into words using one or more card(s) per word. Once a player goes out, everyone else gets one last chance to draw and put down the words they have made. Get a 5 bonus points by having the longest word in any round. The player to bank the most points wins. Scoring is easier and more fun when using point chips. Kids have fun earning, adding and exchanging their point chips. Our 7 year old reader had no idea she was working on word skills because she was too busy having fun! My husband and I really enjoy this game too. It reminds me of rummy but instead of number spreads you make word spreads. It has won a ton of awards!

Set is listed for ages 6+ with an average game taking about 20 minutes. Race to find a SET of three cards where each feature is either all the same or all different on each card. With no turns and no luck, SET is challenging, fast and fun! This highly addictive game can be played without previous knowledge, you don?t have to be able to read or do math to play. Age is not an advantage in this game leaving a level playing field for the entire family. A SET is three cards where each feature, when looked at individually, is either all the same OR all different. Each card contains four features: color (red, purple or green), shape (oval, squiggle or diamond), number (one, two or three) and shading (solid, striped or outlined). This game is all about speed so it is fast-paced. You will need to use your cognitive, logical and spatial reasoning skills all at once to get those sets.
It has won over 35 best game awards including MENSA Select. It has won too many awards to list!

Set Junior is a two-sided game board for ages 3+ and takes around 15 minutes a game. For side 1 you match your tile to a square on the board. Get a point chip for every SET made. Start to recognize SETs while matching color, number and symbols. For side 2 you race to find as many SETs as you can! This is a perfect version for younger kids and no reading is necessary. Each tile contains three features, symbol (oval, squiggle or diamond), color (red, purple or green) and number (one, two or three). A SET is three cards where each feature, when looked at individually, is either all the same OR all different. Working quickly to recognize and make patterns is a great learning tool for younger ones. Both my 4 and 7 year old really enjoy this game and I like it because Lil Sis is able to join us for this one.

I am listing Karma last only because I lost to my husband every time! This is his kind of game! It is listed for 8+ with average game time at 40 minutes and for 2-6 players.?Combine two games and you have a party game for up to 12 people! I personally think this game is more fun the more players you have. This is a very thrilling game which really brings out one’s competitive side. In this game you really don’t know who is going to win until the very last card. KARMA is an elimination game so the first to get rid of all their cards wins. Each turnplaya card of equal or higher number to avoid picking up the entire discard pile. Movethroughyour cards faster by playing doubles & triples. There are four different KARMA CARDS in the deck and they can be played on any card. Be sure to use them wisely because in this game? What Goes Around…Comes Around! This is now one of our go-to party games!

Each of these games are serious boredom busters and brings out the friendly competition in each of us. I consider our game night as quality family time they will hopefully remember forever. We unplug (minus me taking game pics for the blog) and just enjoy being together. Start up your own family game night and bring out the friendly competition.
