In Georgie Cornwell‘s new book, A Mermaid Called Marissa, the author compels children to take an interest in the environment as she introduces them to a fanciful undersea world. As long as I can remember I have had a thing for mermaids and the sea and even as an adult mermaids and anything to do with the ocean enchants me. For my love of the mysteries in the depth I enjoy reading books to my girls that have mermaids in them. I don’t think their love of mermaids is quite as strong as mine but I am working on it. This book engages little readers as they learn about the ocean through the eyes of a young mermaid.

Marissa is a happy young mermaid, spending her days playing with her friends. She loves being surrounded by, and learning about, the many beautiful plants and creatures that share her ocean homeland. Until one day whilst playing hide and seek with her friends, she finds herself in unfamiliar territory and very much alone.
Georgie Cornwell graduated from Birmingham College with a degree in art and design. After graduating, Cornwell completed a stint as a freelance designer for a well-known textiles company. She currently resides in Bangkok with her husband. The book is a fun picture book with a fairly detailed story of a mermaid getting lost while playing hide and seak. She then finds out that plastic is in our oceans and killing sea turtles that eat it. A fun story with a hint of a lesson mixed in….a perfect combination.? A Mermaid Called Marrisa is available as softcover, hardcover and e-book at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Xlibris.
