One of my all time top gift giving suggestions is board games. They are fun for a variety of age ranges from kids through adults. Of course some board games are more fun than others but I am here to share with you two games that are really big hits in my house. ThinkFun has several fun games that are meant to sharpen the mind. Kids will be having a blast playing the games while having no idea they are working their mind in a way to where they are learning too!
Laser Maze Jr. is the single player game for ages 5+ where you have to use your problem-solving skills to arrange the mirrors to reflect the laser beam to the rockets to light them up.
Features:
- Game Grid with Laser
- 40 Challenges from Easy to Super Hard
- Instruction Manual with Solutions
- 11 Game Tokens (2 Rocket Targets, 3 Space Rock Blockers, 5 Satellite Mirrors and 1 Beam Splitter)
We started on the easiest card that she got right away but they definitely get trickier with every new card. I had to bite my tongue several times and just sit back and let her figure it out on her own as she wouldn’t be learning if I told her how to do it. After my daughter has mastered all the card combinations on this one I will definitely have to get her Laser Maze the non Jr. edition which is for 8+ to keep her mind gears turning.
Rush Hour Shift is a two player strategy game for ages 8+ where you have to beat the other car to the other side of the board. What makes the game so hard is there is bumper to bumper traffic you have to move out of the way first but the other player might just move those cars back into your way. The road also “shifts” side to side to really up the fun and difficulty factor.
Features:
- Traffic Grid
- 12 Blocking Vehicles
- 2 Hero Cars
- 32 Cards
- Instructions with 10 Game Set-Ups
- Travel Bag
By the 2nd game Big Sis completely understood how to play and wanted none of my tips as she was playing Daddy. We don’t go easy on the kids when it comes to board games and she gleefully won several games. I challenged my husband and am proud to say I really beat him. He normally wins when it comes to games so it was nice to have a big win for me.
Games are a great way for kids and parents to have fun. I consider myself a long time gamer so I just love seeing my girls get excited every time we get out a game to play. They certainly seem to be as competitive as I am! ThinkFun has a ton of games to choose one so you can browse their selection to find the perfect game for everyone on your list.
