Delicious food and treats are one of my favorite parts of the holiday season. I usually start my holiday baking right after Thanksgiving and continue right up until Christmas. Tis the season of giving and I love to share goodies with everyone I know. I usually do cookie tins but this year, I came up with a fun idea to share a random act of pie-ness with?my neighbors and friends. I made?a pie triflewitha tag to “share the joy of pie”. It sure turned out tasty and I just know they’re going to love it!
I even made an adorable little printable to tie onto the jar. You can download the Share the Joy of Pie printable here, tie it to your jar and add a couple extras so that they can “share the joy of pie” with someone else! It’s such fun to receive gifts and often gets people in the spirit to give and there’s not much that beats some tasty homemade treats this time of year!
Apple Pie is my favorite kind of pie, so I started with a Marie Callender’s Dutch Apple Pie?as my base then found ingredients to compliment it such as pecans, cinnamon and fresh grapes. Marie Callender’s? Dessert Pies and Reddi-Wip? make things so much easier on me. Less time in the kitchen means more time for me!
You’ll need the following ingredients to make?Dutch Apple Trifle with Grapes, Pecans and Cinnamon, all of which are available at Walmart.
- 8 oz canning jars
- Marie Callender’s Dutch Apple Pie
- Fresh grapes, quartered
- Pecans, chopped
- Cinnamon
- Reddi-Wip
- 1/2″ Ribbon
- Share the Joy of Pie printable tag
The funnest part of this whole project is that you actually get to deconstruct the pie and once you cut into it, there’s no need to make sure it stays looking pretty! Just grab a large tablespoon and start digging in. Make sure you get a spoonful that has crust and filling, then scoop it into the mason jar. I did one heaping spoonful.
Next you’ll layer a handful of sliced grapes, then pecans and top with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Repeat with a second layer of?Marie Callender’s Dutch Apple Pie, sliced grapes, pecans and cinnamon.
Once you’ve finished two layers, your ingredients should be close to the top, but not overflowing. Remember you need to add the lid! Once the lid is on, cut a piece of 1/2 inch ribbon and tie it once around the neck of the jar. Using a hole puncher, punch a hole in the printable tag, slip it through the ribbon, tie once more and trim the ribbon to size if needed.
Now you can hand deliver them to your neighbors and spread the holiday cheer! I’m sure they’ll appreciate the thoughtfulness.
If you’d like to make things even sweeter, add a can of?Reddi-Wip with their package. Of course, you’ll have to try one for yourself because they really are too good to resist. Here’s a tip to make the topping look pretty. Holding the?Reddi-Wip can at an angle, start from the inner outside edge of the jar, moving in a circular motion until you reach the middle.
I hope that you enjoyed this fun and unique gift idea. Don’t forget to download the printable (link above) if you’d like to make some of your own to pass out this holiday season!
Are there any other ingredients that you’d put in these trifles?
