Nothing quite celebrates the feeling of the holiday season like a wonderful book. Grab the whole family, a cozy blanket, some hot chocolate and get ready to be charmed by?The Night the Lights Went Out on Christmas?by award-winning singer-songwriter Ellis Paul and illustrated by Scott Brundage. ?
Based on acclaimed singer-songwriter Ellis Paul’s Christmas song, this hilarious tale focuses on an inevitable part of the holiday season?lights! Year after year, the neighbors on one suburban street try to outdo one another with their holiday decorations, until one night their efforts take out the world’s power grid. Once the neighborhood is dark, though, they?re finally able to clearly see the stars above?a simple, perfect Christmas show. Includes free downloadable mp3.
Ellis Paul is a critically acclaimed singer, songwriter, poet and troubadour. He is the recipient of fifteen Boston Music Awards, second only to multi-platinum act Aerosmith. Since launching from Boston, Ellis has built a vast catalog of music, which weds striking poetic imagery and philosophical introspection with hook-laden melodies. He averages 150 shows a year and travels across America and Europe, playing venues from church basements to Carnegie Hall. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame invited Ellis to pay tribute to his hero Woody Guthrie, who has influenced and inspired Ellis in a profound way.
This is Paul’s second children’s book and it tells the story of Christmas Block, a neighborhood known for its massive display of lights and decorations as neighbors compete to have the biggest and brightest display each year. One Christmas they all take it too far and blow out the power for the neighborhood, then the country, and then the entire world! One girl looks up and soon all follow as they really see the night sky and all the twinkling stars clearly for the first time. A great book to remind everyone about the simple joys that truly make the holidays magical. Gorgeous illustrations will have kids pointing out all the fun lights on each page. Based upon Paul’s song of the same name this book is a great family read about finding the true joy of the season.
