Mr. Puffball: Stunt Cat to the Stars written and illustrated by Constance Lombardo is a hilarious chapter book for ages 8-12. Mr. Puffball has always known he was different ever since he was a kitten and that he was destined to be a movie star. The day comes where he leaves his family behind to head across the country to Hollywood to audition for a role in a big movie.

He’s a hero for today. Or possibly tomorrow. He’s a cat. He’s awesome. And . . . wait for it . . . he’s going to Hollywood to become a famous movie star! Follow Mr. Puffball on his trip cross-country. (Look at all the postcards to Mom!) See him stumble upon Hobowood! (Not as glamorous as Hollywood, but full of beans.) Watch him land at last in Hollywood, where he meets a cast of thousands (or at least half a dozen) and catapults himself into the next best thing to being a famous movie star: working as a stunt cat to his movie star hero, El Gato!
The black and white illustrations are half the fun of this book and are on almost every page! I did not read this book to my 7 year old only because I review a lot of books and don’t have time to read them all to her. I on the other hand really did think this entire book was hilarious and I know she would have too. I do have a love for cats though. Cat jokes are prevalent with every page in a way that fits right in with the story. With movie titles like Catsablanca and The Sound of Meowsic this is a hit for all ages! Becoming a famous cat is not as easy as Mr. Puffball thought it was going to be but with some help from new friends he is on the path to something really great. This middle grade reader would be great for cat lovers, movie lovers and even reluctant readers. It is a super cute book and one you really need to read for yourself to truly understand how funny it is.
