Photos are everywhere and can be taken at any time with the help from a trusty smart phone. Many kids may spark an interest in photography and a great way to get them started is with the new book from National Geographic Children’s Books: National Geographic Kids Guide to Photography: Tips & Tricks on How to Be a Great Photographer From the Pros & Your Pals at My Shot (National Geographic Children’s Books; August 4, 2015; ages 8-12). This amazing book is by legendary National Geographic photographer Annie Griffiths and children’s author Nancy Honovich. After reading this to Big Sis she is ready to get her own camera and start taking pictures of animals and nature.

In the age of smartphones and selfies, why not learn from the pros how to take great photos to share with friends and family! Here’s a fun, fact-filled, kid-friendly guide that is jam-packed with all the essentials for budding photographers. From how to set up a shot and stage the lighting, from the best software to short assignments, you’ll learn all the important photographic concepts and basics of equipment, lighting aperture, lenses, depth of field, and more.
This wide-ranging book also has sections devoted to composition and photographing different subjects?animals, people, sports, and landscapes. Before and after shots offer visual explanations while tips and photographs from National Geographic photographers are featured throughout, making this the best photography guide out there today for children?and adult beginners too!
My daughter absolutely LOVES this book! She wants me to read it over and over and is now doing her own research to pick out a camera she wants to ask for at Christmas (since she is borrowing one for my picture below). She said she is done with her kid camera and is ready for a “real camera.” I am excited that she is excited and that she is always so eager to learn.
This book has everything I have come to expect from a National Geographic Kid’s book….gorgeous photos and interesting information. It is written in a way as to be interesting to kids and written for them to understand. It even has tons of information I can use with my own picture taking. If you have a little photographer at home this a great book to teach them about taking the perfect picture.
