When I was a kid and started reading chapter books I gradually gravitated towards the books about aliens, space and fantasy. It would be years before I really realized that those types of books were a genre and that they were my “thing.” I still love reading sci-fi and fantasy books today. Big Sis is just now getting into chapter books and I hope to see us read at least a few together that are my types of books just so she can see what all is out there. I am very new to the Galaxy’s Most Wanted chapter book series from HarperCollins Children’s Books but I already love them and I am only 2 books into the series!
Aliens Attack! When science camp buddies Kevin, Warner, Tara, and TJ summon alien life to earth, they quickly find out that not all extraterrestrials come in peace. Can they stop an alien takeover and save the world in time to win the Invention Convention? John Kloepfer, author of the popular Zombie Chasers books, has done it again. Galaxy’s Most Wanted is full of sidesplitting descriptions; a fast-paced, silly plot; a cast of diverse and endearing characters; and a slew of creepy-crawly aliens oozing off the page. With out-of-this-world black-and-white illustrations by Nick Edwards throughout, the first book in this new series is going to blast off!
Meet the Characters:
- Kevin: Science genius. Physics, biology, chemistry, you name it, Kevin can do it. He’s the brains of the operation, leader of the crew.
- Warner Reed: Kevin’s best friend and resident cool dude. He’s the guy to see if you’ve got a 2 a.m. junk food craving?but you’ll pay top dollar for his top secret stash.
- Tara Swift: Not only is Tara supersmart and great at building things out of next to nothing, she’s also in an all-girl punk band and the best drummer in the universe. (It’s true?just ask her.)
- TJ Boyd: Computer problems? He’s your man. TJ’s a regular computer-programming prodigy. He’s not much of a talker, though. Word around the campfire is that he damaged his voice box in a botched robotics experiment.
Kevin Brewer and his friends Warner, Tara, and TJ are having the best?and the worst’summer ever. After accidentally summoning one of the galaxy’s most wanted alien criminals to their science camp, they blasted the intergalactic bad guy back into outer space and saved the world.
For a nanosecond, Kevin is king of the universe. But then a new alien criminal duo invades Earth, bringing an army of extraterrestrial wasps with brainwashing stingers. Buzzkill!
Kevin and his buddies must gear up to save the world?again. But it will take a stroke of genius to outsmart these alien cons. Will the Extraordinary Terrestrials be up to the task?
The books are about a group of nerds that love all things to do with science and technology and they are buddies at science camp. In the first book they decide to build an alien communicator that they saw in a comic book and to their surprise an alien comes down to earth and claims bad aliens are after him. The team must find a way to save earth from being taken over by aliens and their save their new pal!
In the 2nd book the friends are dealing with the whole aftermath of having called Mim to Earth. A space ship desends on the camp with a freeze ray but thankfully the group escapes to a nearby camp. There they find a clue in a comic book. They must travel to find answers and possibly save earth yet again from aliens!
This is an amazing series for boys, reluctant readers or for any child that likes aliens! Galaxy’s Most Wanted is the first in the series with Galaxy’s Most Wanted: Into the Dorkness is number 2. The books are silly which leads to plenty of laughter but the books still follow a fun storyline. Big Sis surprised me by telling me she loved them and we are now reading through them for the 2nd time. It is so great to see the heroes of the books are super nerds!
