My son is not a big fan of getting messy. If he gets something gooey, sticky, or mushy on his hands, he wants it off. I decided to research about ways to engage all of the senses while playing. I figured it would do my son some good to start playing more with different textures to get over his aversion to messiness, so I made him a sensory bin.
My son loves all kinds of vehicles, especially construction trucks. We’ve had some road construction near our house and he loves driving by and watching all of the machines and trucks move.?Since he has so many construction trucks at home, I figured?I’d use that for his theme of the sensory bin.
To make all you need is a plastic tub/bin, rice, and construction vehicles, cones,?etc.
He loved the feeling of the rice in his hands. He just kept filling up all of the trucks and dumping them out. Adding a small bucket inside of it gave him a “pit” to dump the rice into.
He was very into playing construction. At one point he ran inside to get his construction hat and he built some roads and many rice “mountains.”
He played independently for a while with this bin, which was great for both of us. I enjoyed watching him be creative and use his imagination. This?is perfect for keeping him busy over the summer and I cannot wait to make more sensory bins for him.
