Considering adding a new dog to your family? American Kennel Club (AKC) has designed some new tools that can help you select a dog breed that is perfect for your family. The Breed Selector and You vs. Breed features have been added to their revamped website to aid you in choosing your new furry friend.
With the Breed Selector, you’ll answer questions such as “When I get my new dog, our stomping grounds will be in..”, whether you live in a house or apartment, and how many children and other dogs you have.
You’ll then share how you’ll be hanging out with your new dog, the level of noise you can handle and how well you keep your floors clean.
Your answers will be calculated and a suggested list of breeds that will fit your current lifestyle complete with images and information as far as each breed’s size, length of hair, grooming needs, trainability, as well as their levels of barking and activity needs will come up. My results suggested that a Bullmastiff, Mastiff, Greyhound, Skye Terrier and Newfoundland would match me best. That surprised me a little because of our 3 dogs, none of them are those breeds.
You can also have fun on the site with the You vs. Breed feature. You’ll connect through Facebook and select a dog breed that you like to’see how similar you are.
You vs. Breed: Ever wonder what your animal spirit would be? Now you can know if you?re more of a laidback bulldog or a playful retriever with AKC’s You vs. Breed. The feature allows you to pick a breed of your choice and, based on your social media habits, find out how similar you are to that breed. Our algorithm evaluates energy, cleanliness, sociability, independence, playfulness, and more.
These are just a few of the great things that AKC has to offer dog owners on their website. It’s chocked full of information for the dog lover, such as information about canine health, training clubs and information about care and nutrition. It’s a wonderful resource for all dog owners.
