~I received The Loudness for review. Opinions and stories are my own.~
I’ve always felt that summer is a time for reading. There are so many’summer reading programs for children and young adults through companies like Barnes & Noble, Pizza Hut and even most local libraries. All of which award readers with fun prizes, games and more! With that being said, I wanted to add to your young child’s summer reading list by introducing one of my favorite new YA novels, The Loudness?by Nick Courage.

The Loudness is about a young boy living in the world after the tragedies. He spends most of his time in the library of the Green Zone, the last habitable neighborhood in the ruined city. Henry Long is just like any other boy his age who dreams of greater things beyond. The only difference is that Henry doesn’t have a heart.
Henry Long doesn?t have a heart. He doesn?t go to school. He doesn?t have a girlfriend. He doesn?t have a clue. Two of those things are about to change.
It is more than a coming of age story for a young boy with a mechanical heart. The world he lives in is the aftermath of our world and when Henry’s mother, the mayor of the Green Zone, moves to gain independence from the federal government so they may be self-sufficient, it is seen as a secession and his parents are kidnapped. Soon the story takes on an action packed adventure where you race with the unlikeliest of people through the Other Side and an overcrowded city under collapse to save them.
Henry learns the world isn’t as he had once believed and not everyone is as they appear?- including himself.
The Loudness had me surprised?many times throughout and that is hard to do to an avid reader! I absolutely loved the story and the characters.?Nick Courage is an amazing novelist. Although it is within a YA genre, I honestly would recommend it to adults as well. Every time you think you know what is going to happen in the story, it twists and does something you’d least expect. It’s a brighter dystopian story?about freedom, family, friendship and life.
