My children love to watch television. I do limit their television time, but it’s?easier to persuade when it’s PBS Kids DVD’s they are wanting to watch. It’s so nice to have educational videos to entertain our children. As a child I would watch Mr. Roger’s everyday after school. When I began having children I would watch Mr. Roger’s with them and would be flooded with memories from my childhood. Now the tradition continues only it is Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.
Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
Watch Eight Grr-ific Tales:
~Daniel Explores Nature ? ? ? ?~Fruit Picking Day
~Daniel’s Nature Walk ? ? ? ? ? ?~A Trip to the Enchanted Garden
~Safety at the Beach ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ~Daniel Plays Ball
~Neighborhood Clean Up ? ? ? ~The Royal Sandbox
Our favorite tale was Safety at the Beach. ?My five-year old has been asking to go to the beach since the weather turned?warm. This segment was very educational about what Daniel and Katerina Kittycat can?find on the beach. ?They find a shell and a crab and imagine what it would be like to be them. ?Mom Tiger has to remind them of their rules when they are at the beach, ?Stop and listen to stay safe!?.
Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: Daniel’s Day at the Beach is a cute book about safety procedures at the beach. Mom Tiger says, ?Remember our safety rules. To stay safe, you have to stop what you?re doing when I say stop, and listen to what I say if I call for you.? Mom Tiger also told them not to go into the water without her. Daniel and Katerina go all over the beach looking for starfish, but when they get too close to the water Mom Tiger calls out ?Stop and listen to stay safe!? Love the illustrations and at the end of the book is a Look and Find for items in the story.
Reading Rainbow has brought stories to life for over 30 years. Hosted by acclaimed author LeVar Burton will take you on journey after journey with all of your favorite books. This DVD shares four classic episodes featuring If You Give A Mouse A Cookie. I remember as a child watching Reading Rainbow. I always enjoyed hearing LeVar Burton bring the books to life as he read story after story. This is a tradition that I am able to share with my children as they watch this DVD.
1. If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, a tale of a little boy who offers a cookie to a mouse. Watch as one thing leads to another, showing how actions lead to consequences.
2. Owen, a story about a little mouse who’s very attached to his security blanket and doesn?t want to give it up, even if it means he will be tease when he starts school.
3. Two Old Potatoes and Me, a story about a girl who works with her father to reuses two old potatoes by replanting the sprouts to grow a whole new crop.
4. Mr. George Baker, a story of an elderly man who decides to go back to school to learn to read, even though he is almost 100, and his relationship with his young neighbor as they wait for the bus every day. ?It’s never too late to make dreams a reality!

What a great diverse grouping of PBS Kids DVD’s that are fun for the whole family. I would rather my children watch PBS than any other kid’s channel. When we changed cable providers it took me a while to find PBS, but thankfully I did. Now I can rest assured knowing their shows will be educational and age appropriate.
