I love a good movie based on a true story. There’s just something so appealing knowing that the story happened in real life that really gets my interest. I couldn’t wait to watch Danny Collins. I just knew with?amazing actors like Al Pacino, Annette Bening, and Jennifer Garner staring in it that the movie wouldn’t disappoint.
Al Pacino stars as aging 1970s rocker Danny Collins, who can’t give up his hard-living ways. But when his manager (Christopher?Plummer) uncovers a 40-year-old undelivered letter written to him by John Lennon, he decided to change course and embarks on a heartfelt journey to rediscover his family, find true love and begin a second act.
The movie begins with Danny Collins (Al Pacino) performing?at a sold-out show. The next day, at his birthday party, Danny’s manager Frank (Christopher Plummer) has a birthday gift: an unreceived letter John Lennon wrote to him after reading an?interview from 1971. In the letter, Lennon encourages?him to “stay true to yourself and to your music”. Danny has an a-ha moment and decides to change his life for good. He flies to New jersey to?make things right between him and?his grown son and while there also tries to win the heart of?the hotel manager,?Mary Sinclair (Annette Bening), at the Hilton where he is staying.

I really enjoyed watching this my husband. I thought Al Pacino was great and this was one of his best roles in a while. He really felt true to the character. I loved watching the banter between him and Annette Bening as well; they really added a great romantic comedy feel to the movie that I was pleasantly surprised with. If you’re in the mood for a great rom-com filled with a star-studded cast, be sure to pick up a copy of Danny Collins, out on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD today.
